My path from hockey to painting
MY STORY

Early Movement and Foundations
Born as Christoph Zeugswetter, movement was my first form of expression. From an early age, ice hockey played a central role in my life and eventually led me into a semi-professional environment. Sport taught me discipline, endurance, and commitment—values that still shape my work today. Alongside this structured world, another interest slowly emerged. Today, sport remains a balance, while its mindset lives on in my artistic practice.
Urban Origins
My artistic journey began the moment I encountered graffiti in public space. The energy of color, movement, and spatial depth immediately fascinated me. This visual language stayed with me and became the foundation of my creative thinking. Through graffiti I moved toward airbrushing and a deeper exploration of form and surface. Art became an inner necessity rather than a conscious decision.

Creative Shift
After years within a structured professional path, I made a clear turn toward visual design. I pursued formal training in graphic design and worked across various creative contexts. Over time, it became evident that independence was essential for my way of working. I chose self-employment and began moving between commissioned work, free projects, and conceptual exploration. During this phase, I also started designing and releasing my own typefaces.
Art Focus
Painting accompanied me throughout all these phases and gradually moved to the center of my practice. Key moments encouraged me to take art seriously as an independent path. Exhibitions and collaborations followed, along with a conscious decision to position myself clearly as an artist. I now live and work in Graz. Under the artist name Monsieur Schabernack, I combine discipline, playfulness, typography, and painting into a distinct artistic language.
